The popularity of electronic scooters, skateboards, and bikes continues to rise, but that great speed comes with great responsibility. If your Terp brought one of these devices to campus, or if they’re hopping on a rented Veo to get to class, they need to know how to safely interact with others on and off campus to avoid an accident. Please pass along these important guidelines for staying safe and riding responsibly.
- Obey speed limits and stop at stop signs: Mind your speed and give yourself time to stop (e-scooters need up to 20 feet of braking distance).
- Ride on the road: Micromobility devices operate on roads like other moving vehicles. Electronic devices should walk their wheels on sidewalks.
- Ride with traffic: Stay in your lane and wait until it’s your turn to move - don’t swerve around slow or stopped traffic.
- Look out for each other: Watch for other vehicles and prioritize pedestrians; leave 3 feet of distance between the e-device and others.
- Protect your shell: Wear a helmet when you ride. Discounted helmets are available for purchase at the Department of Transportation Services (DOTS) office located at Regents Drive Garage.
Your Terp’s safety is our top priority. Please encourage them to visit the DOTS website for more information on safety guidelines and best practices.
